Franz Beckenbauer played the position of the libero. After his active player career he became a coach and later a tv expert for the tv channel Sky for a total of 25 years.

In 1974 he played for the German national team and won the World Cup. 26 years later in 1990 he won the World Cup with the German national team again, but this time as the team’s coach.

There aren’t many soccer players who have won the World Cup as a player, as well as a coach. This elite group of people currently consists of the Brazilian Mario Zagallo (1958, 1962 & 1970), the French Didier Deschamps (1998 & 2018) and Franz Beckenbauer (1974 & 1990).

In 1966, Beckenbauer released his song “Gute Freunde kann niemand trennen” (Good Friends no one can seperate) which reached number 31 in the German charts.
