Interesting facts about Duel of Fates
- Darth Maul is a deadly, agile Sith Lord trained by Darth Sidious. He wielded an intimidating double-bladed lightsaber. Though he fell in the battle against Obi-Wan Kenobi, he would be much harder to destroy than believed. Darth Maul only blinks once throughout the film. This is mostly because the contact lenses that Ray Park wore made it difficult to blink and Park liked the idea of a villain who never stops staring. Finally he blinks when he is stabbed by Obi-Wan Kenobi. The development of Darth Maul went through many iterations before the final design. Concept artist Iain McCaig concentrated on all sorts of different helmet designs, trying to come up with a masked look to rival Darth Vader. He eventually adapted a concept he had intended for senatorial characters -- painted and tattooed faces -- to come up with Darth Maul's look.
- Obi- Wan is a legendary Jedi Master. He was a noble man and gifted in the ways of the Force. He trained Anakin Skywalker and guided Luke Skywalker as a mentor. Ewan McGregor studied many of Alec Guinness' films, including Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope (1977), to ensure accuracy in everything from his accent to pacing of his words. The role of an aged general and war hero returning to galactic warfare after years of retirement was first intended for Luke Skywalker in the early drafts of Star Wars. Subsequent revisions evolved Obi-Wan into an eccentric and kindly old man looking to make a comeback.
