Madame Tussauds Blackpool joins millions of mourners around the UK and the world in paying tribute to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. During her life and 70 year reign we have created over twenty different figures of The Queen to mark different moments in her iconic public life. Madame Tussauds has a long-standing relationship with The Royal Family and worked closely with the Palace on the creation of these figures. A special condolence book has been placed alongside Her Majesty’s figure to allow guests to record their thoughts and tributes.
- Queen Elizabeth II, then Princess Elizabeth, was just two years old when her figure was first immortalised in Madame Tussauds London in 1928. Since then, a staggering 23 waxworks have been created, depicting Her Majesty at various stages throughout her life
- A second portrait was sculpted by John Theodore Tussaud (Madame Tussaud’s great-grandson) in 1930 and was seated on a Shetland pony
- Madame Tussauds held sittings with HM The Queen from 1928 right up until 2001
- It took a team of 25 artists to work on
- Queen Elizabeth II's figure, spending a total of 800 hours collectively. This includes: 350 hours to sculpt the figure, 187 hours to insert her head of hair and 30 hours to make her set of teeth
- Queen Elizabeth II is sculpted with roughly 150kg of clay, equating to 23 stone, the average weight of a tiger
