To coincide with Hollywood's annual "Award Season", Madame Tussauds is unveiling a new version of Leonardo DiCaprio in the Vienna Prater. The 49-year-old, whose latest film "Killers of the Flower Moon" received ten Oscar nominations yesterday, has been an integral part of the collection since the attraction opened in 2011. 13 years later, he has been given a makeover and can be seen by visitors in the Hollywood room from today.
"We received a lot of fan requests asking if we could make a new Leo figure. No wonder, after all he has been a fixture in Hollywood's film industry for years and remains very popular. There couldn't be a better time to finally present him to visitors during the current award season in Hollywood", says Lukas Rauscher, Marketing Manager of Madame Tussauds Vienna.
It took around six months, 20 artists and 3,000 hours of work to create the new figure of the "Titanic" actor in the studios in London. Each hair was inserted individually, the acrylic glass eyes were hand-painted and the skin was applied layer by layer with oil paint to achieve the exact skin colour.
Whereas he used to be seen in the attraction in a casual leather jacket, he now wears an elegant black dinner jacket with matching bow tie and patent leather shoes. The figure is rounded off with a champagne flute in his hand, as he will now be available to visitors at the bar.
With films such as "Titanic", "Aviator", "The Wolf of Wall Street" and "Django Unchained", Leonardo DiCaprio is one of Hollywood's most successful actors. Over the course of his career, he has already received seven Oscar nominations and finally won the statue in 2016 with the film "The Revenant" in the Best Actor category.
