Princess Wilhelmina, born on August 31, 1880, in The Hague, was Queen of the Netherlands from 1898 to 1948. Her long reign made her one of the most influential and admired monarchs of the 20th century. As the daughter of Queen Emma and King William III, she ascended to the throne at a young age and led the Netherlands through turbulent times.
Wilhelmina supported the introduction of women's suffrage and other social reforms that modernized Dutch society.
She had a special bond with her granddaughter, Princess Beatrix. Despite her extensive royal duties, Wilhelmina dedicated much time and attention to her family.
In 1939, Wilhelmina published her autobiography, Eene Mijn Leven, in which she candidly spoke about her life, her years in power, and her personal experiences.
