Willem van Oranje

William, Prince of Orange, Count of Nassau-Dillenburg, better known as William of Orange or by his posthumous nickname William the Silent, was a statesman and army commander who played a key role in the founding of the Republic of the Seven United Provinces.

Willem van Oranje, also known as William the Silent, was one of the most important figures in Dutch history. Born on 24 April 1533 in Dillenburg, Germany. A founder of Dutch independence and champion of religious tolerance, William of Orange is considered the ‘Father of the Fatherland.’
