Rocket Man Landing in London: Elton John to Receive Legendary New Figure at Madame Tussauds London

  • Wednesday 16th October 2024

MTL Announces Upcoming Sir Elton John Figure 16.10.24 (1)

Our world-renowned attraction is excited to announce that the living legend Elton John will take centre stage with a brand-new, first-of-its-kind figure, later this year.

We've revealed that the upcoming figure will honour the megastar’s incredible 50-year career by taking the world back to when he first shot to stardom, in the 1970s. Celebrating Elton’s out-of-this-world stage presence, the new figure will achieve the gravity-defying feat of suspending mid-air in the legend’s signature keyboard handstand move from the era.

Behind-the-scenes images and videos released our attraction today show the highly skilled studio artists perfecting Elton’s ambitious figure, being one of the most complex structural designs integrated into a figure to date. The content shows the first stage of the figure’s build – the clay sculpt, which is wearing a toile and stand-in statement glasses in place of the final styling. The superstar has worked collaboratively with our attraction since his sitting in 1976 for his first-ever figure. It made history too, being the world’s first talking and smiling Madame Tussauds figure, including voice recordings by Elton himself.

Elton John is a living legend who has wowed the world for decades with over 85 Top 40 hits, showstopping performances and an electric stage presence. With over 300 million records sold worldwide, he is one of the best-selling artists of all time. The Rocket Man continues to soar to astounding heights, joining the elite EGOT group in January of this year after securing his first Emmy Award for his Disney+ live concert special Elton John Live: Farewell from Dodger Stadium. The upcoming documentary Elton John: Never Too Late, which premieres 13 December on Disney+, follows Elton John as he looks back on his life and the astonishing early days of his 50-year career in this emotionally charged, intimate and uplifting full-circle journey featuring never-before-seen footage.

Steve Blackburn, General Manager at Madame Tussauds London, said: “We’ve been creating figures of Sir Elton John since the beginning of his legendary career, and he has always inspired us to go above and beyond in our creations. Back in the 1970s, his first figure was our first talking figure, and in 2024 we’re determined to go big again. The figure’s iconic, gravity-defying pose will capture the essence of Elton’s legendary early performances in a way that only Madame Tussauds London can. This will be our most structurally complex figure to date in our centuries-old history and it is going to be a real showstopper when we unveil it later this year.”

The first-of-its kind figure will launch in Madame Tussauds London’s Impossible Festival music zone later this year. Boasting a legendary line up of music icons from throughout the ages, Elton’s upcoming figure will join fellow headliners from eras across his incredible career, like Beyoncé, Ed Sheeran, Ariana Grande, Amy Winehouse, Freddie Mercury and David Bowie’s Ziggy Stardust.
