VIP-J Party at Madame Tussauds Sydney rallies behind kids in care

Fashion model and presenter Megan Gale has swapped out the flowing red couture gown adorning her wax figure at Madame Tussauds Sydney for classic satin pyjamas in the name of National Pyjama Day.

Megan’s temporary style change lends her support to a VIP-J party at the Darling Harbour attraction, held to help kids in foster care, Australia's lowest performing educational group.

Rock icon Jimmy Barnes even donated a pair of his own pyjamas for his double, standing united in sleepwear with the figures of tv personality and comedian Rove McManus, sport legends Sally Pearson and Glenn McGrath, as well as celebrity chef Curtis Stone, all showing their support for the cause.

Driven by The Pyjama Foundation, 22 July is a day when Australians are encouraged to wear their favourite pair of PJs and raise vital funds and awareness.

Megan Gale commented: “National Pyjama Day is a fun way to get together with your colleagues, school or loved ones and raise funds for The Pyjama Foundation. Plus, who doesn’t want to spend the whole day in their PJs?”

Official event host, Madame Tussauds Sydney opened the doors to their interactive World of Famous Fun early for a Breakfast VIP-J Party for some special party guests before opening to the public at 10am.

Supported by The Pyjama Foundation’s program, carers and kids were joined by volunteer Pyjama Angels, who play a critical role supporting children in care by building their learning, life skills and confidence to ultimately improve the trajectory of their lives. All the guests, young and old, enjoyed exclusive access to the attraction, travelling through 11 immersive zones.

Richard Dilly, General Manager for Merlin Entertainments, Darling Harbour said, “We were delighted to put on our PJs and get behind the great work of The Pyjama Foundation, sharing our magical attraction exclusively for today’s National Pyjama Day party.

“Madame Tussauds Sydney is no stranger to working with international icons and celebrities, and hosting today’s event was an absolute privilege.”

The team at Madame Tussauds Sydney supported the comfiest day of the year by dressing a selection of their wax figures, and all staff, in pyjamas for one day only and pinning up posters with donations QR codes. All funds raised this National Pyjama Day go directly towards supporting the Foundation to recruit, screen and train committed volunteers to make an incredible difference in the lives of children in care.

The Pyjama Foundation Founder and CEO Bronwyn Sheehan OAM said the statistics surrounding children in care are heart breaking and she knows with the support of businesses like Madame Tussauds Sydney, more vulnerable children can be reached.

“92% of children in care have below average reading skills by the time they are 7 years of age, and it is a struggle for them to catch up.

“Every dollar raised this National Pyjama Day will go towards The Pyjama Foundation’s Love of Learning Program. National Pyjama Day is all about rocking your pyjamas anywhere and everywhere to raise vital funds for kids in care.

“I would like to say a massive thank you to Madame Tussauds Sydney and all the celebrities for supporting National Pyjama Day this year. We couldn’t do what we do without the generous support of so many like the Madame Tussauds Sydney team.”
